Sandgem town, southern beach, early morning.
The sound of waves echoed in the still empty beach, there was no one in sight save for a few pokémon either just waking up or returning to their dens.
Slowly, Roderick made his way through the sandy terrain, his Riolu Vyse following him closely. It had become custom between them to walk this path in the mornings, before the lab staff woke up in order to prepare for a new day.
Looking around, Roderick saw the same scenary as always, the same rocks in the same pplaces, the same pokémon, the same old dock, the same old egg... wait.
"What's this" said Roderick as he came closer to inspect the strange new addition to the landscape.
On closer inspection, the egg looked a bit on the small side, it was mostly light blue, but ithad a navy lue spot at top and it was covered in white at the bottom. Grabbing it, Roderick quickly noticed that the egg had a sticky feel to it.
"Well, this is interesting, I've never seen an egg like this before, what do you think Vyse?"
Vyse got closer to the egg and tentatively sniffed it. Not noticing anything bad about it, Vyse simply shrugged.
"Well, we better take it to the lab. Let's see what professor Rowan thinks about it"
With a nod from his partner, they both set foot back to Sandgem town...

Professor Grant was in Professor Rowan's lab. The professor had to take to an emergency call and left in a hurry. While Grant preferred to travel and observe Pokemon in the wild, he was in the area and agreed to fill in at the lab in case any local Trainers needed assistance.
He was reviewing some of Rowan's work on Pokemon evolution. He was especially interested in what Rowan thought about certain evolution rituals seen by certain species of Pokemon. At one point he decided to hang around in front of the laboratory and see what kind of local Pokemon - wild or otherwise call Sandgem Town home.

Roderick calmly walked through the town in the lab's direction. Around him, peolpe were beggining to wake up and were starting their morning activities. The local pokémon were no slouches either, starlys were beggining to gather all around either waiting. for prey, or food from the passerby travelers.
Sniling Roderick kept walking, only to stop as he sighted Professor Rowan walking back to the lab.
"Good morning professor, what brings you outside of the lab this early?" said Roderick as he walked beside Rowan.
"Oh Hello Boy, I was just returning after attending a cal from professor Elm. Strangest discoveries let me tell you... say, what is that you are carrying?"
"It's a pokémon egg, but I don't know of what, I found it at the beach and was hoping you could help me find out more about it"
Roean's brow furrowed in thought "mmm I don't think I've seen this kind of egg either, but perhaps we have something in the archives. Besides, we have a guest in the lab today and we wouldn't want to make him wait. Let's go Boy"
They both rounded the corner of the lab, findong themselves with profeasor Grant.
OOC: No one is supposed to know about what the egg is yet. Gives me more eriting ideas that way.

Grant looked up as Rowan and another boy entered. He nodded quickly to the Professor. "Welcome back, Professor." His eyes immediately shot to the strange egg. "I see you two found something interesting while you were out." From behind the desk where Grant was sitting stood a Mightyena that stayed quiet but cocked her head in confusion at the sight of the new egg.
The Mightyena walked over and Grant stood up behind her still looking at the egg. "Well, Professor Rowan...do you know what this is? We could contact Professor Elm." Realizing he was getting ahead of himself he stopped. He looked at the trainer and smiled, "Hello, I am Professor Grant. They call me the Wandering Professor because I travel all over the world observing and recording all sorts of information about the world of Pokemon. But I have never seen an egg like this." Mightyena went over and sniffed the egg still confused at what it could be.
"Easy, girl. You don't want to get too comfortable with that egg." The Professor told his Bite Pokemon friend.
She looked back at him and walked away from the egg. She curled up along the side of the desk and laid down. Her eyes were still fixed on the group.
"So..." Grant realized he didn't even know the boy's name. He paused awkwardly and then said, "So, where did you find this thing? I mean, unless it is a discoloration or a mutation, it doesn't look like anything I've seen in Sinnoh or anywhere else for that matter."

Smiling, Roderick shook the Professor's hand.
"My name is Roderick, glad to make your acquaintance professor, and as for the egg, I found it at the beach this morning, my guess is that it was carried here by strong currents from a far away land, but we should first check the records before making any assumptions".
The three entered the lab and proceeded to start researching.
***
After a couple of hours of investigating the records, neither Roderick, Rowan or the assistants had come up with anything useful. Vyse had maintained himself occupied by playing with Mightyena, much to the annoyance of the later. After a while, Vyse had finally settled and soon fell asleep on the Hyena pokémon's side.
"Roderick, I think I discovered something about the egg" Called professor Rowan. Roderick quickly made his way towards the egg, with professor Grant in tow.
"Look at the egg right now, isn't it a little different now?"
On closer inspection, Roderick found out that professor Rowan was right. The egg appeared different somehow... the colors were a little washed off... he had read about this before...
"I remember now, eggs need adequate conditions, but this egg is showing signs of bad conditions... this egg was found at the sea. Perhaps it needs water in order to hatch".
Professor Rowan nodded, and exited the room, only t come back in with an incubator.
"It will need non salinous water, since I think that's the reason for the egg's current status. Luckily, Lake verity is very close. Roderick, I want you to take the egg in this incubator and fill it with water, then come back in order to keep monitoring the egg".

Professor Grant was watching the two Pokemon sleep. While Professor Rowan was doing what the did best, Grant was silently thinking about what that egg would hold within. He knew it was a Water type but had never seen an egg like that for any Pokemon that the was familiar with.
He pulled out his laptop and began to work. He spent what seemed like hours pouring through data he collected from all the regions, islands and places where he traveled. He looked into how Muk and Grimer survive in the water. He looked into many unique traits of Pokemon and how they react to water. He saw no evidence of such an egg or anything it might be a mutation of.
He sighed. This would be the discovery of a lifetime if he could figure out what it was.

Roderick nodded and took the incubator with the egg already inside.
Don't worry professor, I'll be back in no time.
Momentairly leaving the egg, Roderick rushed home to gather his bag and all the supplies he had, quickly returning to the lab yo take the egg.
"Say, professor Grant. Wouldn't you want to come with me? It's not that far away"

Grant had stashed the laptop away and stood up. At the sound of her Trainer moving, the Mightyena yawned and rose to join him. "Sure. Take that egg with you. It is yours, after all. Besides, once that Pokemon hatches it best be with a Trainer and not in a lab." He looked at Professor Rowan. "No offense."
The Professor made his way outside and grabbed two Pokeballs from inside his jacket. "These guys have been inside for a while. I should give them a chance to exercise." He would have sent out his Lapras but there was no water around. "Come on out you two." The balls opened and with a glow of light appeared a Venusaur and a Noctowl. Noctowl hooted loudly before taking to the air overhead, Venusaur grunted before calling out happily at being able to get some fresh air. Mightyena was overjoyed to see the two of them as both her and Venusaur started to move down the road. "Don't go too far just yet. Noctowl, keep an eye on them."
The Professor looked at the Trainer, "It's your journey, kid. Lead the way."
((OOC: If you want to chat in the town for a bit, feel free. If you want to move directly to the lake, it would be in a the Sinnoh Routes and Wilderness board))

OOC I'll make one more post here.
Smiling, Roderick nodded and motioned Vyse to follow. The riolu, eager to go out and Explore rushed forward and introduced himself to the other pokémon, excited to have more friends around.
Roderick, the professor and their pokémon slowly made tgeir way out of town, which was in full swing at this hour, merchants and shop owners had already opened their wares, children were currwntly in school, so they were not present. There were some adults and old people ahopping for food, some of thwm accompained by their own pokémon.
The scenary began to change little by little. Houses became more far apart from each other and trees became more abundant, wild pokémon ran from here to there in their daily business, on the distance Roderick could see tye all so familiar sign marking the beggining of route 201.
"Well, here we go"

((OOC: Start a thread for the Lake in the other board and I'll finish up here))
The Professor was sitting on the back of Venusaur as they approached the start of Route 201. This was common practice. When Venusaur was young and only a Bulbasaur in Kanto, Grant carried him through the Viridian Forest after he got stung by a Beedrill. Bulbasaur always enjoyed being carried whenever possible. This became more difficult as he evolved but now he returns the favor for his long-time friend.
Mightyena was always weary of being inside a Pokeball. Grant attributed it to being a side effect of the mutation that made Mightyena part Steel type. She was more of a guardian or a watcher - always wanted to see what Grant was seeing. She was lucky Venusaur wasn't the jealous type and that they became instant friends.
Noctowl circled the entrance to the root as the two of them drew near. The Professor didn't know how long he would follow the kid but if he could teach him a thing or two - he would.
